Quantic Factory — Paris Endroits Frais

During a heatwave, finding somewhere to cool off quickly in Paris is not easy, especially for a tourist. The information does exist: the City of Paris publishes open data on green spaces, drinking fountains and a wide range of activities. But these datasets are raw and hard for the general public to make sense of.

The Quantic Factory project set out to turn this open data into a simple, interactive web app, useful to tourists and residents alike.

BarkelTech developed Paris Endroits Frais, a data-centric web app built with Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui. The data comes from opendata.paris.fr: green spaces (name, address, type, category), fountains (name, street) and activities (type, free or paid, arrondissement).

Users can filter by arrondissement, by type of activity, by type of green space, or by whether a place is free or paid. Results can be shown as tables, as cards or on an interactive map built with React Leaflet, which uses each place's geographic coordinates. Green spaces are presented in accordions to keep the page readable. Each type of place has its own display component, which makes adding a new dataset straightforward.

For each place, the app shows the information needed to decide at a glance: name, address, type of place, whether it is free, and arrondissement. Data is loaded by dedicated functions kept separate from the display, so a data source can be swapped without touching the interface. The project shows what BarkelTech can build from public data: a clear interface on top of raw datasets.
